Frequently Asked Questions

"Kundalini" literally means coiling, like a snake. In the classical literature of hatha yoga kundalini is described as a coiled serpent at the base of the spine. “Kunda” means fire pit also, and that fire is covered with ash that’s why it is unable to burn the impurities of our life. It is the energy of awareness, creativity force of life.

The practices that helps to awaken the dormant serpent energy is called kundalini yoga. The purpose of hatha yoga is to awaken that energy but as we follow yogakundalini Upanishad, Hatha yoga pradipika and some other texts we are teaching certain exercises that clean our chakras, nadis and awake them. Bandhas, mudras, mantras, kriyas are the most powerful tool in kundalini yoga practices.

As other yoga mostly practiced physically and based on asana; but here kundalini yoga is spiritual in nature.

Regular practice of kundalini yoga bring physical wellbeing, improve flexibility, muscle tone and nerve strength, weight loss, balances all systems of the body, increase strength, mental and emotional balance, inner joy, clarity, mindfulness, reduce stress, spiritual awakening, fearlessness, etc.

There is no such founder of kundalini yoga, it is ancient and no ancient teacher proclaim as the founder. All great sages and seers who discovered this energy and they share the knowledge for the sake of humanity. Lord Shiva and his wife Parvati considered as the beginning less yogis who taught the secret of kundalini yoga.

Yogi Bhajan has created a system of practice called Kundalini yoga with specific chanting of Sikhism which is part of great Indian culture. But before him this yoga exist. Time to time the teachers they teach in their own way and create their brand with the same name.

We follow the ancient tradition of Kundalini yoga that has mentioned in ancient scriptures like yoga kundalini Upanishad, hatha yoga pradipika, etc. Yogi Vishnu has nicely compiled the practices and he has been teaching the same for more than 15 years.

No, we teach traditional kundalini yoga. We are not the part of kundalini Research Institute KRI founded by Yogi Bhajan. We follow the teachings of Himalayan Master Swami Rama, Mahavatar Babaji kriya yoga, and many other masters from Kashmir Shaivism.

Prana is the vital breath and bio-energetic motility which is associated with maintaining the functioning of the mind and body. Kundalini has a manifestations as consciousness and a unifying cosmic energy. When the prana get balanced and expands then in susumna channel kundalini rise above in the spine. They are deeply connected to each other.

In the yogic anatomy we study that susumna is the central channel which runs along with our spine from the root to crown center. It pierce through 7 chakras and chakras are associated with the most important aspects of life. By awakening it all the nadis and chakras get balanced and opened. Kundalini yoga removes the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual blockages and allow the life to move freely and joyfully.

Sure, Kundalini yoga can make you fit physically. Your health not only related with the body but your mind, emotion too. As most of the diseases are psychosomatic kundalini yoga heal the root cause called mind.

Many yogis has mentioned in their book that the kundalini awakening has several symptoms such as a mild sense of a trickle of energy up the spine. This is just an energy movement but true awaken can be different experience like volcano erupting inside. It gives a very pleasant sensation and leads to complete stillness and silence. Many people believes that when it awaken your whole body shakes and one feel like crazy. But they are the experience of pranic vibration as you feel body shaking in winter.

There are lots of scientific research on these topic from what it is proved that they are exist but they are subtle and physically it cannot be seen. Izaak Benthov has proposed a model to explain kundalini in terms of micro-motion in the brain. It has the micro vibration and it stimulate different part like heart, throat, navel Centre etc.

In Vajrayana tradition of tebetion Buddhism they practice kundalini yoga as they are originated in India in 12th century. Christianity, Sufism and some other tradition also have similar practice that show it is a universal practice.

To awaken kundalini you need to work on every part of yourself. There are so many ways like “Bhakti”devotion, “seva” selfless service, “Jnana” inquiry to self-etc. they all help to remove the blockages. Then when you will find a real guru, he/she will transmit the energy “Shaktipat” called decent of Shakti according to their own tradition. Following the teachings of Guru you can be blessed with this experience.

It is said when student is ready, guru arrives. So do not search for a guru but prepare yourself more and more and one day Guru Come to you in any ways. After you find him you mind always find so comfortable even looking in his picture or video or in dream. Once you feel that feeling then test the Guru if he is real or not. Once you start believing then trust and surrender yourself and ask for blessings and teachings.

Many students want to awaken their kundalini faster and without proper preparation when someone have this awakening they may feel craziness and mental imbalances. That’s why in the Himalayan tradition we teach very systematically step by step so that students enjoy can be safe from any kind of problems.

One experiences the ecstasy and blissful in mind, chant mantra and recite some unknown sounds and sometime trembling, shaking etc. Higher yogi experience the wave of bliss, periods of elation, glimpses of transcendental consciousness.

There is no relation with it. This is because some of the teacher tried to take advantage of this situation. Kundalini yoga is pure always. Always be aware and be away from them who is doing such things in the name of kundalini yoga.

To receive a good benefit of it; it is important to follow a yoga life style. Yogi Vishnu has written a wonderful book “Daily life of a yogi” that need to study.

You can start with half an hour and once you start enjoying you can increase the time. You also can practice in the both morning and evening.

With a teacher you find more comfortable and safe. Once you learn it systematically and once you have clear all doubts then you can practice in your own.

Kundalini yoga allow moderate sex. Your sexual life can be very enjoying by taking the help of kundalini yoga.

Yes, you can practice kundalini yoga in pregrency, even it will be more helpful for you and your baby. During first trimester is fine and then you should consult a doctor. Avoid all naval exercises, inverted postures and strenuous kriyas. Squats positions are excellent preparation.

Yes you can practice but avoid naval exercises, inverted postures and strenuous kriyas.

You can modify the practices according to your strength and can practice. Suppose if some is overweight or suffer from high blood pressure, heart problem they must consult their doctor.

Kundalini yoga is not a religion. It is a science because you explore and experiment within and it is an art because you make yourself beautiful all sides. It will not create disturbances in your prayers and believes. Practice it for your spiritual, physical and mental growth. It helps you to make you a better Christian/muslim/jew or whatever you aspire to be. Life is not about being identified with a label but t is about being divinely you.

I trained with Yogi Vishnu Ji for a 200 hr self-paced traditional kundalini & tantra certification course. His warm and professional way of teaching aligned with how I learn best. The material is organized, there are supporting people behind the scenes and the course felt like a family. Since I was self-paced and I have limited internet, it was important for me to find a course where I could learn through videos 2-3 days a week. I took the whole 3 months to complete the course, however still feel connected to the knowledge and warmth of Yogi Ji... Thank you Samadhi Yoga Ashram for offering such a gift that will be passed to the world.

I have been practicing yoga for 3,5 years. I have always wanted to learn yoga deeper and to become one day a yoga teacher. I believe you can learn and study more just by teaching others. In this way, you can grow yourself and you can help other people grow as well. I had a lot of questions in my mind when I decided to register for Guru Vishnu’s yoga teacher training course. He promised that the course would change my life. But I didn’t expect that the changes in my life would be so rapid and huge. I am delighted with the level of preparation of any events, quantity, and quality of information! I am very impressed!

I am so grateful to have chosen to attend this school online, it really changed my perspective of learning yoga in a more traditional sense giving me the greatest understanding I need to continue my journey. The teachers are beyond amazing and the people you meet wonderful people from all over the world. I cannot wait to attend this school in India in the nearest future. I highly recommend this school. I love the traditional teachings which gave me the experience I needed to build a strong yoga foundation. It is definitely life-changing in the most positive way. I love this school!!!

Well, my experience over the last month has been magical, to say the least. I had signed up for a Kundalini YTT and that Kundalini knowledge ended up being just the extra bonus. The daily lessons with Guru Vishnu Ji are something I feel everyone should experience in their lifetime, our world would be a much better place, that is for sure. The amazing group of my classmates from all over the world truly added a real sparkle to my experience. It is so incredibly refreshing to be surrounded by so many wonderful, like-minded people, even if only on a virtual platform for now. I can not wait to meet my new family live in Rishikesh when the time is right.

I had an amazing experience with Samadhi Yoga Ashram for my Kundalini Yoga Teacher Training. It was an online version, but they did so well in helping to feel deeply connected to the teachers, staff, my Guruji Vishnu, and my fellow students around the world. They are authentic, warm-hearted, and very supportive in helping students find their path as not only a yoga teacher, but a student, a yogi who lives yoga as a way of life, and in navigating personal and collective wounds. I highly recommend it to anyone seeking traditional yoga as a way of life and in guiding others on their path too. It was a life-changing experience, following a very challenging couple of years. I am finally feeling whole again.

Staying at the Samadhi Yoga Ashram for my 200-hour yoga teacher training was the best decision I ever made. The staff and teachers were super friendly and knowledgeable. By the end of the 18-day intensive training we were so close, always laughing and hugging. I really feel like we all became a family. I made amazing memories there. The facility and accommodations met my expectations and had everything I needed. When I went in December it was a little cold but if you have enough blankets you will be fine! The staff also has plenty of blankets for people to use if needed. The food was delicious and plentiful every day. We also had enough time for breaks throughout the day to explore the town and have fun. Would highly recommend it!
